OUR
HISTORY
The Skills for Life: Bilateral Upper Limb Loss Workshop was initiated in 2002 by Dr. Robert H. “Skip” Meier, III, and Diane Atkins, OTR, after over 11 years of collaboration at The Institute for Rehabilitation and Research (TIRR). They recognized the unique challenges faced by individuals with bilateral upper limb loss and believed that sharing experiences in person was more impactful than other communication methods. This workshop has proven to be a life-changing experience for every participant.
Now, led by a volunteer board and our Founder and Executive Director Shawn Johnson, Enhancing Skills for Life has served people from all 50 states and across the globe. Building on its initial goal to bring people together to learn and support each other, there are so many things to explore.
